Tubbs Hill in CDA: What To Expect

Named after Tony Tubbs in the early 1990s, Tubbs Hill is a natural area located a stone’s throw from downtown CDA, and on the cliffs bordering Lake Coeur d’Alene. Originally purchased by the CDA City Council in 1936 to be turned into a municipal power plant, Tubbs Hill was turned into public ownership in 1974.

Today, the 120-acre natural area welcomes an estimated 150,000 visitors each year and is the number 1 thing to do in CDA! Bordered by the lake and the stunning McEuen Park, Tubbs Hill is the perfect place to immerse yourself in the natural environment of CDA while being a short stroll away from the town center.

Thanks to the 2.2-mile (3.5 km) interpretive trail that runs lakeside along the edges of the park, Tubbs Hills is today a classic Coeur d’Alene hike that is the perfect CDA park for experienced hikers and beginners alike.

For nature lovers, as the Tubbs Hill Foundation continues its work to restore Tubbs Hill’s native habitat, the park is returning to its original glory, which included dense forests of pine trees and shrubs. And, you’ll never be short of breathtaking views over the lake throughout the hike!

To enjoy the Tubbs Hill hiking loop, you’ll only need to walk a few minutes away from downtown, towards the southwestern corner of McEuen Park. This spot, which you can find at 210 S. 3rd Street marks Tubbs Hill’s trailhead.
